U.S. 101 Median Barrier Replacement between Hollywood and Calabasas

  • Home

  • Project Details

Our subsidiary, OHLA USA, Inc., serves Caltrans as a general contractor on this $35 million assignment that replaces 19.3 miles of concrete median barriers between the Pilgrimage Bridge in Hollywood and Valley Circle Boulevard in Woodland Hills. Since this span of 101 is a significant commuter corridor, all work is being done during nighttime hours, allowing for the free flow of traffic during the day.

This project will improve the effectiveness of the median and enhance safety and mobility for motorists since not only will the new barriers enhance protection by reducing collision severity, but they will improve nighttime glare protection due to their increased height.

Since all construction activities are performed in a narrow, constricted space, contract execution requires much pre-planning and careful coordination.

Client Recognition:

Kris Venkataraman, Caltrans District 7 resident engineer in the construction division, says OHLA USA brings skill, expertise, and proactive leadership to the job.

“The 101 job site is tight and narrow. [OHLA USA] proposed reducing some of the working areas to have better constructibility and more room to work in the area, and work could proceed more smoothly and quickly. At the same time, it reduced the project cost,” says Venkataraman. “It saved the project about $3 million and approximately 22 days.”
