Renewal of Avenue Z Substation
OHLA USA’s subsidiary, Judlau Contracting, Inc, executed this $9 million contract that called for the renewal of Avenue Z substation and demolition of CHB #592 at the Avenue Z Circuit Breaker House on the Culver Line. Work included civil restoration, construction of water and sewer lines, cable bridge between the substation and tracks, interior and exterior masonry replacement, roofing assembly/system replacement, and renovation of bathrooms and a crew room.
Electrical work was performed in three stages to replace unit B switchgear, rectifier, transformer, DC breakers, and laying down cables through a new cable bridge to Track B1 & B2, connecting to the station. Work also included removing and disposing of an existing mercury arc rectifier, installing power silicon rectifier, liquid-filled transformer, 15 KVA AC high tension switchgear, DC switchgear and associated equipment, and new Con Edison high-tension service, and replacement of related facilities.
