MED-609 Water Main Replacement

  • Home
  • Projects
  • Project Details

OHLA USA's subsidiary, Judlau Contracting, Inc., served as general contractor to install 2.6 miles of 24-inch, 36-inch, and 48-inch trunk water mains that connect to shafts that service NYC's Water Tunnel No. 3.

Work to replace varying-sized sewers and 12-inch, 20-inch, and 24-inch distribution water mains was also part of the $338 million contract. Logistics were extremely challenging in several areas, particularly the section on 9th Avenue between West 58th and West 59th, which required the relocation of a massive utility duct bank to make way for the installation of a 36-inch trunk water main and butterfly valve chamber. Since the job site was highly visible to nearby residents and business owners and featured extensive pedestrian and vehicular traffic alongside the narrow work area, the project team took the utmost care in keeping it safe and clear of debris at all times.
