Our subsidiary, OHLA Building, Inc., served as construction manager on this 121,000-square-foot veteran's home, registered to achieve LEED Gold Certification. The $51 million contract called for the construction of three one-story buildings that comprise the 120-bed skilled nursing facility for the Florida Dept. of Veterans Affairs. The home features 60 bedrooms reserved for residents with Alzheimer's/Dementia. The overall design includes a multi-purpose room, six bariatric rooms, and six private rooms.

The main building, known as the Heroes Center, houses administrative offices, physical therapy services, a beauty/barbershop, a cafe, a chapel, and a kitchen and dining facilities. The nursing home is surrounded by protected woodland areas that provide a peaceful setting for the community's residents.

The facility serves veterans from Florida's Treasure Coast, which has a large population of men and women who served in the U.S. Armed Forces. The nursing home is named for a Medal of Honor recipient from the Vietnam War -- Sergeant Ardie R. Copas, a resident of St. Lucie County.
