Accessibility Upgrades at Eight Stations
OHLA USA’s subsidiary, Judlau Contracting, Inc., successfully delivered a $160 million design-build contract to support MTA Construction & Development’s efforts to expand ADA accessibility across the New York City subway system. This project played a key role in advancing the MTA’s commitment to equitable transit by adding 17 new elevators at both elevated and below-ground stations -- enhancing mobility for individuals with disabilities, seniors, parents with strollers, and all riders.
Beyond elevator installation, the scope included a wide range of infrastructure upgrades: utility relocations, structural modifications, station interior renovations, new canopies and windscreens, and enhancements to lighting, signage, and public artwork—all designed to meet ADA standards and improve the overall rider experience.
- Brooklyn: 7th Avenue, Grand Street, Metropolitan Avenue–Lorimer Street
- Queens: Beach 67th Street
- Manhattan: Dyckman Street
- Bronx: East 149th Street
- Staten Island: New Dorp
All work was completed while maintaining active train service and station operations. Judlau implemented a detailed Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) plan to minimize disruption to transit users, pedestrians, and adjacent vehicular traffic.
This project exemplifies Judlau’s ability to deliver complex, high-impact infrastructure improvements in dense urban environments and reinforces our shared commitment with the MTA to building a more inclusive and accessible transit system for all New Yorkers.
