Mendoza Water Treatment Plant Expansion and Improvements

  • Home
  • Projects

OHLA is carrying out a contract to expand and improve the Mendoza Water Treatment Plant, a critical potable water facility serving the La Chorrera District in West Panama, one of the country’s most densely populated and rapidly growing regions.  The project also features a significant amount of road construction to connect the Mendoza Water Treatment Plant with another water treatment plant, along with a two-lane road bridge built over the Caño Quebrado River on the main road to the town of Mendoza, on the existing alignment. The combined value of both the water treatment plant upgrades and road construction is $314 million.

The scope of work required to rehabilitate and upgrade existing treatment processes includes multidisciplinary civil work and the installation of new treatment units and their associated mechanical equipment and process systems. Once all the systems are integrated with existing plant operations, testing and commissioning will take place. This phase will encompass quality checkpoints to ensure the plant’s overall operational reliability, hydraulic performance, and water quality consistency.  To avoid service disruptions, extensive planning, phasing, and coordination with all team members are required to precisely execute this contract.

The project is designed to increase the plant’s potable water supply capacity by 50%, delivering an additional 20 million gallons per day to the regional distribution system. Upon completion, the upgraded facility will significantly enhance water system reliability, improve service coverage, and support long-term population growth and urban development.
