Alvarado 2nd Pipeline Extension
OHLA USA is serving as the prime contractor for the $123.2 million Alvarado 2nd Pipeline Extension, a project that will ensure the continuity of reliable, environmentally sustainable water service to San Diego’s growing population.
The contract calls for the construction of approximately 10 miles of water main in the Mission Valley and Mission Bay areas of the city. New 24-inch and 48-inch transmission mains will be installed along the Friars Road corridor between Frazee Road and Qualcomm Way, where they will connect to the existing Alvarado Pipeline. OHLA crews will also construct the mains along West Mission Bay Drive, where they will connect to the recently completed Pacific Beach Pipeline.
On San Diego’s Napa Street, the OHLA USA team will install a new 36-inch transmission main branch for future connection to the Morena Pipeline. The construction of a new pressure-reducing station, along with its associated equipment, is required to support the expanded water service.
The contract’s other major scopes of work include the replacement of a 12-inch distribution main along Sea World Drive.
This critical infrastructure investment will improve water delivery reliability for San Diego communities for decades to come.
