OHLA USA’s Judlau Contracting division is carrying out the Addison Creek Channel Improvements project, which aims to bolster flood protection for communities in Bellwood, Northlake, Stone Park, Melrose Park, Westchester, and Broadview in Cook County. The initiative focuses on reinforcing creek banks to mitigate flooding during heavy rain events, safeguarding residential and commercial areas.

Key elements of work included:

  • Bank Reinforcement:  The project involves stabilizing approximately 3.2 miles of creek bank, with significant work ongoing across nine targeted locations.
  • Structural Development:  Nearly 12 reinforced concrete soldier pile walls are nearing completion.  The team is also finishing the last drilled shafts and installing articulated concrete blocks.
  • Stream Stabilization:  Efforts included stream stabilization activities designed to enhance the durability and resilience of the creek banks.
  • Soldier Pile Walls:  Providing structural support and stability along sensitive creek sections.
  • Gabion Baskets and Mattresses:  Rock-filled wire mesh containers have been installed at mid- and upper-bank levels for flood mitigation, along with gabion mattresses in shallow areas to further reduce erosion and flooding risk.

This infrastructure upgrade plays a vital role in protecting the surrounding communities from flood damage, ensuring long-term resilience against extreme weather events.  The work reflected a strong collaboration between Judlau, MWRD, local community members, and project stakeholders.
