The complex maneuver to install the 175,000-pound bridge took less than 50 minutes. This required the on-site installation of a Liebherr 1600 crane with a maximum capacity of 600 metric tons. The crane took three days and 27 full tractor-trailers to assemble.

of Elmont Station, which is LIRR’s first new facility built in almost 50 years. The station is a major part of the large-scale Belmont Park Redevelopment project, which encompasses Belmont Park racetrack and the New York Islanders hockey team’s new UBS Arena.

The project is ADA-compliant and includes amenities such as free WiFi, digital screens, elevators, canopies, and charging stations. The timing of the first phase of the station’s opening coincided with the Islander’s season home opener in November 2021 and was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by many state and local government representatives. The project’s second phase will be completed in 2022.
