OHL tapped for three new contracts in the Chicago area totaling $69 million
Judlau Contracting, Inc., an OHL North America company, announces it has been awarded three new projects that will break ground in 2018, valued at $69 million. These projects will help improve safety and enhance travel in the greater Chicago area.
The company was awarded a $47.9 million contract by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to execute the interchange improvements along Interstate 55 (I-55) at Weber Road in Romeoville, IL. The project consists of roadway widening, reconstruction, and resurfacing of Weber Road, as well as reconfiguring the existing interchange into a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). The DDI interchange design improves traffic flow and safety for motorists, this is the third to be constructed in the greater Chicago area.
In addition, this project includes two independent bridge structures in which OHL will replace the deck on the existing bridge which serves as the southbound bridge and on the northbound side the company will construct a new 253-foot two span bridge. The improvement includes the installation of five traffic signals, storm sewer, pipe culverts, compensatory storage, sidewalk, shared-use path, and roadway lighting. This the first time OHL will self-perform PCC (Portland Cement Concrete) pavement work via slip-form paving in the Central region. The two-year project will address safety, operational, and capacity deficiencies along I- 55 and the Weber Road Interchange, which carries more than 40,000 motorists a day.
The Fox River Pedestrian Bridge project, valued at $14 million, includes the construction of a new 930-foot pedestrian bridge over the Fox River that will connect the east and west sides of the river and improve access to the Aurora Transportation Center in Aurora, IL. OHL will construct the new bridge, make improvements to the west side parking lot, enhance the intersection of Illinois Route 25 and reconfigure multi-model access to accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicular traffic flow.
OHL was also awarded a $7 million contract to build a retaining wall for the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority. The project is part of the Elgin O’Hare Western Access project to expand access to O’Hare International, one the nation’s busiest airports.
